Fun Peanut Butter Snacks For Aurora Kids

Healthy, growing children need to snack between meals for proper nutrition. Most Naperville parents have probably had the experience of forgetting an afternoon snack. What happens? Kids finally notice they’re hungry about an hour before dinner, and boy is it hard to wait!

A great snack ingredient is peanut butter. It is an inexpensive source of protein and calories and gives Naperville children the nutrients they need to grow and to stay healthy.

Here are some great healthy snack ideas using peanut butter for Lisle and Bolingbrook kids.

Peanut Butter Banana Pops

Bananas, cut in half width-wise
Popsicle sticks
Peanut butter
Chopped nuts, sprinkles, or other topping

Take the popsicle sticks and push them carefully into the cut bananas. Spread peanut butter over the bananas and roll in nuts or other topping. Freeze. Enjoy.

Peanut Butter Balls

This is the kind of recipe you can’t really mess up, and the portions are approximate.

about 1 cup of peanut butter
a few tablespoons of honey (2-3)
a few tablespoons of instant dry milk

Mix everything together until it forms a large ball. Pinch off small pieces of dough, and roll into ball shapes. Store in the refrigerator, and pull them out at snack time.

F-A-R For Lisle Kids With Asthma Attention Lisle parents of children with asthma: Johns Hopkins Children’s Center recommends the FAR approach to prevent flare-ups. FAR stands for Flu shot, Avoid triggers, and Regular use of meds.1

Flu Shot: Respiratory infections are dangerous for Lisle children with asthma. The flu shot lowers the risk of catching a bug and also helps lessen complications for those who do get the flu.
Avoid triggers: Lisle parents of asthmatic kids should determine the triggers and protect their child at their home, Lisle school, and wherever their child spends time.
Regular Medication: The meds referred to are the controller or prevention medications, not the rescue meds designed for use after an attack is in progress.

The Johns Hopkins article also reminds parents to be extra careful when the seasons change–a common time for an increase in attacks.

Aurora health trends come and go and I have recently noticed that the practice of juicing fruits and vegetables has made its way back into the Illinois children’s nutrition spotlight.

In my experience, I have found that the only Aurora parents who have been successful at making their own super-healthy juices over the long term are Aurora vegetarians who dedicate a lot of daily time to preparing their food.

Most Aurora people who buy an expensive juicer use it for a few weeks before it is relegated to the back shelf of the pantry. Though juicing provides a way to improve your children’s nutrition, it can be time-consuming and expensive. After buying fresh fruits and vegetables, it can cost several dollars to make one glass. Of course, if you have ever tasted fruit and vegetable juices made fresh, you know how delicious they are. For many Aurora parents, this is worth every minute and every dollar spent.

Does juicing provide more nutrition than eating whole fruits and vegetables?

I haven’t come across any convincing evidence of this but I do see the value for Aurora parents whose kids enjoy drinking juice more than eating whole fruits and vegetable. Mixing vegetables with sweet fruits in a juice can disguise their taste and make them more palatable than the same vegetables raw or cooked.

Aurora parents who would like to start juicing should keep in mind the fact that juicing usually removes all the fiber from the fruits and veggies used. A glass of fresh juice also contains a lot of calories!

When it comes to your Westmont child’s health, you might first think of their diet. While putting vitamins and minerals inside your child’s body is important, you also need to pay attention to what is going on on the outside. I’m talking about your child’s skin.

The skin is our body’s largest organ and when skin’s smoothness is disrupted, small cracks and openings can create an entryway for bacteria and germs.

Active Westmont kids don’t often think of the condition of their skin until it starts hurting. Playing outside in hot, cold, or dry weather can lead to small cracks around knuckles or nails. This painful condition is called dermatitis, or extreme dryness. Temperature extremes in Westmont make it harder to keep skin moist and healthy – dry, chapped and cracked skin is common in summer and winter.

Many kids lick their lips until they turn red or bleed. Reminding your child to drink plenty of water can prevent over-dryness.  Using a humidifier during the night in your child’s bedroom can also help.

Make sure you leave moisturizing lip balm in handy locations: by their bed, the front door and in the car so reapplying it becomes habit. Remind them to slick some over their cuticles as well, to prevent cracking.

Lisle dermatologists suggest a using a daily skin moisturizer that contains shea butter and aloe to draw moisture into the skin and keep it in place.

Encourage Lisle kids to use waterproof gloves when playing outside in the cold. Lightweight gloves with grips added to the palms are great for playing ball and riding bikes. In addition to protecting skin from dryness, they keep small hands from slipping. You can pick these up at Illinois sporting good stores or Lisle big box stores.

Using a non-drying sanitizer is another way to prevent bacteria from entering through the skin. Look for brands that are alcohol-free to prevent excessive dryness.

No Bolingbrook parent wants their child to be exposed to Internet pornography, however, this tragedy occurs everyday. Why is there such a disconnect?

Some Bolingbrook parents may not realize that their young child can navigate the computer like a pro. Others may believe that their child would never go looking for inappropriate material.

If you think your Aurora kids are too young to worry about it, don’t be so sure. Illinois parents continue to report that they found out too late that their child was exposed. I urge you to take precautions now.

With Internet pornography increasing everyday and young people succumbing to this cybermonster, Aurora parents wonder what they can do to prevent this from ever happening to their kids.

This advice bears repeating: Bolingbrook parents should put the computer in an open area so that it can be monitored. In addition, many forms of web protection are available for free. Though it is time-consuming, Bolingbrook parents would be wise to only allow their child use the Internet with Mom or Dad present.
